What happens when you are a mixed media artist, an assemblage artist, a clay and cloth doll maker a seamstress and a quilter? Oh, lets not forget cook since I love to find new recipes and try them out on others. Especially if they are things that are not especially good for the body. It helps if you spread the calories around...Any way what happens is you collect "stuff." All kinds of stuff...That is the reason I am in a quandary now of sorting and storing.

and started on another section of shelves. If you could see inside the shoe boxes you would see they are crammed full of a miscellany of fibers, feathers, beads, old jewelry, tools for a variety of projects. Clay sculpting tools, paint tools and embellshments for bookmaking and any other project you can think of.
Once upon a time I sewed. I sewed my kids cloths and my own clothes and loved it and was quite satisfied to do so but mid 1990's I was introduced to doll making. I started collecting. I moved to Florida where I was introduced to quilting. I started collecting more. Then I met a woman named Ellen, from New Port Richey, who introduced me to altered art and consequently became a good friend . I started collecting big time. Now I have a calling card with a simple phrase describing me. "collector and creator of stuff."
Okay, I got side tracked for a moment...
In the process of all this sorting and arranging I discovered I have 3 heat guns,
3 burning tools
and more fancy fibers and threads then I can use in two lifetimes.
Eventually it will get passed down to my daughters and friends as all 'stuff' does. In the meantime I have promised myself to do no more shopping unless I absolutely need to.
Oh, did I mention I love books so that is another thing I Have collected...The file folders beside the shelves in the photo above are soft cover books on how to do most anything...Quilting Arts, Cloth Paper and Scissors to name only a few...and the ones you see are only a fraction of the complete collection of 'how to' books...
Yeah for sorting and yeah for an awesome art studio - your pictures and blog make me want to come play!
ReplyDeleteCome any time you want to Christine...pick a medium and we will play...
ReplyDeleteDarlene, some times I think you are more than one person! Truly! How is it you can create all your beautiful artwork and clean and organize? Not to mention writing poetry, taking photographs, and blogging? I think of you as a dancing fairy, flying through your various studios waving a wand and MAGIC takes place! I'm sure it doesn't feel that way to you! Congratulations for your hard work and creating order and space for future projects!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ruth. I truly think you have made an amazing difference in my life. You give me motivation, encouragement and inspiration to do more...as for dancing...I have 2 but feels like 4 left feet...no rhythm except in my head and get self conscious on the dance floor but I love the image of me that you have...
DeleteHi, i found you through Octoberfest, do you want to come and tidy my workspace, yours looks fantastic
ReplyDeleteha ha ha...I could earn my living this way...noh!...art is way more fun...
ReplyDeleteYou are certainly a "Creative Beast", what with all your crafting interests! And I too have problems getting it organized since I do more than one craft - I began with sewing and knitting as a child, began to draw, took dance lessons, continued wit art classes in high school, then learned mixed media collage and really loved it, followed by book binding and art books...WHEW! It's a lot of craft interests and a lot of stuff that I too have collected over the years, but it looks like you did a GREAT job of organizing your goods...could you come over to my place to help me organize?? ;)
ReplyDeleteI will be sure to look us some of your past crafty blog posts soon =-)
