MEMORIES
Memories of those who went away to war
to fight for our freedom on far away shores.
Memories of soldiers fighting alone
in blood soaked fields far from home.
Memories so dark they lit up the night
as young and old stood up to fight.
Memories of loved ones left behind,
it's all they could do to not lose their minds.
Memories of an enemy they did not know
as time played on incredibly slow.
Memories of bombs bursting in the sky,
shells whizzed by and left only a sigh.
Memories of those who at home have stayed
working and waiting they all knelt and prayed.
Memories fading away like a ghost in the night
soon none will be left with memoirs to write.
But!
Now we have more memories!
Memories of young people fighting a new war
fighting for politicians on far away shores.
Memories of soldiers being blown to pieces
so profits of a few can show increases.
Memories of loved ones being left behind
some will soon forget the ties that bind.
Memories of those who at home must stay
working and waiting and kneeling to pray.
Memories of an enemy that looks much like them,
they try their best not to condemn.
Memories not fading like ghosts in the night
so now there will be more memoirs to write.
Let us stand up and honor Old Glory
In memory of our soldiers and all of their stories.
