A DAY OF REST

Our company was to return from Jacksonville today but they decided to stay over one more day so they could all go to Disney World in Orlando today. That gave me one day of nothing much to do so decided to watch a video.

I learned how to sew when I was about 8 years old while living in Oregon. My mother sewed most all of our clothes and it was only natural that her daughters learned to sew. I also learned to crochet from my aunt around that age while living in Oregon. My first real adventure into sewing on my own was making clothes for the bride doll I had received for Christmas.

We were such a motley crew

I was a tomboy, preferring to run around barefoot and playing with wooden blocks we used for cars and buildings. Or swimming in the watering hole my grand father dug for the fields and livestock. I can't remember having ever played with dolls though I am sure I did.

For some reason I as a young girl I wanted to sew doll clothes. I remember well that summer I spent sewing for my doll and some of the items of clothing I made.  From scraps I made her a 2 piece suit, dresses skirts and pants. These were all hand sewn and kept in a shoe box. I no longer have that doll but I wish I did. It went the way so many things do when you move around a lot.

Now I want to become a "couture seamstress" so I am teaching myself how to do fine sewing. Both hand and machine sewing.

I have bought several sewing classes from Crafty College and having time today I sat and watched the most recent one. "Sewing With Knits" by Linda Lee who is one of the best sewing  teachers I know of. I love that, for a nominal amount of money, I can have a very in depth and detailed class and watch the video over and over any time I want. This class in person would have been several hundreds of dollars.

I have patterns and fabric and I am so excited to get started on sewing after my daughter leaves next week though I am trying to figure out how to fit it into my art that I want to do. I am guessing one is going to suffer for the other but that is okay. It will all get done when it is supposed to get done.

  1. Take your time, do what you do. I have never seen something you have done that has not been extraordinary (sp). I am sure that before too long, you will have combined these for another work of art. Love you and all that you do!
