C4 ward BLOGATHON March, Day 8

Your Blue Ocean

Today's blog ask us to think about our red and our blue oceans in regards to creating and selling our art. When I think about it I go back to the art I created to honor the men who lost their lives in the gulf oil spill and the irreparable damage we are doing to our planet. We can't continue to put profit above honor. Here is my shrine to these men and this event.

Here is the front and back of the book with the skewers woven through the signatures to form the spine..

The front cover shows the beautiful deep blue gulf waters as the oil is churning to the surface

The waxed and burned pages represent the horrific fire that took the lives of so many and cause so much irreparable harm

The inside pages show the different oil spills around the world and the year they happened and pictures of the harm to the environment, wildlife and human suffering  and the nominal slap on the wrist the rich oil companies got.

Before it was over with or at least the fire was out and the oil was plugged here is a page showing the results and it is still not over. We are still feeling the impact of that disaster and all the others we have had so we can have oil and the companies can have profit.

  1. This is incredibly powerful, Darlene!! Have you had opportunities for it to be displayed where people can see it?--Carol Hays

  2. A goodn, Darlene. Your book brought to mind Peter Greenaway's film, Prospero's Books, a post-modern version of Shakespeare's Tempest. He has the book of Water, the book of Air, several different books with pages that changed as you looked at them. It's also my favorite movie of all I've seen. I found this an interesting project, as did you.

  4. Darlene, this is NOT a failure! You demonstrate here what happens when we destroy our Blue Oceans with bad ideas and wrong actions!!! Fabulous work - impactful. I can feel every bit of the sorrow and helplessness burned into your heart (and so many of ours as well). Thank you for this.
